Shujaat Bukhari, Rising Kashmir editor, shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar

Veteran journalist Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead by unknown gunmen outside his office in Srinagar. His PSO is also dead in the incident. Bukhari is editor of Rising Kashmir. ANI reported that Bukhari was attacked by terroristsin Press Colony in Srinagar city. Bukhari was leaving his office in Press Enclave in the city centre Lal Chowk for an iftar party when he was shot at. Earlier PTI had reported that Bukhari was in a critical condition. He was battling for life in a hospital, officials said. Another policeman and one civilian are also injured, PTI reported. Bukhari was given police protection since an attack on him in 2000. It was not immediately clear how many gunmen attacked Bukhari. Shujaat Bukhari started the daily Rising Kashmir from Srinagar on March 10, 2008. Previously, he worked as Bureau Chief of The Hindu, a national daily, for 15 years. He was also the president of Adbee Markaz Kamraz, the biggest and oldest cultural and literary organization of Kashmir. Bukhari Bukhari was instrumental in organising conferences for peace in the Kashmir valley. Reportedly, he was also part of the Track II process with Pakistan.
